We all saw what Manny Pacquiao did against Antonio Margarito. Round after round the Pacman inflicted pain and damage, utilizing blistering speed and accumulative punching. At the end of the fight Tony Margarito looked like a man who was just attacked by 5 men. Margarito required eye surgery after the fight, and luckily he will make a full recovery. So yes Manny Pacquiao has proved that fighting bigger men and defeating bigger men is well within his power.
Sergio Martinez is a whole new monster. Am I saying that Manny Pacquiao can’t defeat him? No I am not. I will never bet against Manny Pacquiao, but with that said, Martinez is a big, strong, fast, and awkward fighter. He’s like a Margarito plus. He just destroyed Paul Williams, a guy many ranked as a top 5 pound for pound fighter in the world.
Does Pacquiao need this fight? I’m sure Martinez wants this fight, it will be the biggest payday of his life.
Recently famed fight trainer Freddie Roach said that he would like to see Pacquiao fight Martinez. The weight would have to be agreed to first, and if each side agreed to the weight, this fight may happen. I personally would rather see a Pacquiao Vs. Marquez trilogy fight, but it doesn’t appear that it’s going to happen that way.
I would rather see Pacquiao square off against Marquez one more time, then end his glorious career with a fight Vs. Mayweather (IF) little Floyd can escape jail time.
I have a bad feeling about Pacquiao matching up against Sergio Martinez. How big is too big for Manny? I mean what’s he going to do next, move up and make a run at cruiserweight?
Martinez Vs. Pacquiao would definitely sell. Martinez is growing his fan-base more and more every day. Pacquiao obviously already has a huge fan-base, and it would be the number 1 guy fighting the number 2 guy. Perhaps Floyd could make an argument on the number 2 spot, but he isn’t available for comment.
Mississippians that I have spoken to recently are for the most part wanting Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao, but are leaning toward a Marquez trilogy fight if Floyd isn’t in the cards. This was evident when I was at the StrikeForce Challengers card in Jackson, MS. I spoke to many boxing fans about this. Mayweather first, Marquez second, Martinez third, and Berto fourth. This is how Pacman’s opponents line up for Mississippians.
Freddie Roach wants Martinez, Arum wants Mosley, the fans for the most part want Mayweather, and or Marquez. Who will win out? Only time will tell.
