WBC king Barrera keen on Suico tiff

WORLD Boxing Council super-featherweight king Marco Antonio Barrera has declared his readiness to face Filipino Randy “Komong Bato” Suico if his promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, agrees to the match-up.

Barrera, in an interview with the Mexican media Tuesday, said De La Hoya chooses his opponents.

“If a fight with Suico is interesting, if it is accepted by many, then we can do it,” said Barrera from his Mexico City base. “I have seen videos of Suico’s fights. He is a seasoned boxer who hits hard.”

Suico, who is ranked WBC no. 3 behind Erik Morales and Manny Pacquiao, successfully defended his Oriental and Pacific Boxing Federation (OPBF) title on April 27, knocking out Thai Muangfahlek Kiatwichean in the fourth of a scheduled 12-rounder.

Among Suico’s fans at ringside was Ring Magazine featherweight king Pacquiao, who beat Barrera by technical knockout in November 2003 in Texas.

Following his win, Suico declared: “I want Barrera next with his WBC title at stake. I am ready to face him.”
