My good friend Matt Swider (a guy who I chronicled for all his travels to stadium fights in 2010, awhile ago on Maxboxing.com) were bemoaing the inevitability of a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley. As we were discussing this, he came up with this idea- a rematch between ?the Pac Man? and Miguel Cotto, who he defeated last November.
I actually like this idea, it?s certainly better than a bout with Mosley, but I know some of you will be lukewarm to this fight. But now this bout is a jr. middleweight unification and it?s at a higher weight which may suit Cotto. Many didn?t like the fact that Cotto, who came into that first fight as the defending WBO welterweight titlist, was made to fight at a catch-weight of 145. I?m sure this fight will have to be fought at a catch-weight (of course, what isn?t these days?) but there is that factor and this time around, instead of having a novice trainer, he has Hall-of-Famer, Emanuel Steward in his corner.
Again, it?s not perfect, but it?s a Top Rank in-house fight (which is so vital in Pacquiao?s case) and let?s be honest, Bob Arum isn?t making a fight with Sergio Martinez. I have figured this out, when Arum says he has to discuss something with a boxer of his, that?s really coded phrase for,?Hell-to-the-no, we ain?t doing that fight.?
