Marquez: ‘I’ll Fight Pacquiao at Any Weight’

Juan Manuel Marquez says the weight is no problem, and if Manny Pacquiao doesn’t want to meet at a catchweight, he’s willing to step up to welterweight for a third fight, despite Bob Arum’s suggestions that a third fight doesn’t interest the public.

“I’ll fight him at whatever weight he wants, I have no problems with that; what gives him problems is my style, not the weight,” said Marquez. “And if the weight is a problem, then we’ll face him at welterweight for a third fight.”

“Margarito came into his fight strong, but without any speed, without strategy and you can’t beat Pacquiao that way,” added Marquez while speaking to Record. “Ideally you have to counterpunch him, make him think and that’s how you’ll complicate things, I’ve proved it twice.”

“I think if we face him at welterweight, there’d be no problem, because at the end of the day, he’ll come in at 148 pounds, and I’ll be 145 as I did in my last fight against Michael Katsidis, who himself went up to 154 pounds, so for me, that’s not the issue; I’ll have to explain that to Bob Arum,” added Marquez.

“Now they tell me that the fight wouldn’t interest the fans; I’d like to ask which fight would be more interesting, for Pacquiao to face Shane Mosley, who’s coming off a draw and a loss, or against someone who hasn’t lost but has actually beaten him [Pacquiao] twice, although on his record, it’s not reflected…so I think they’re very wrong.”
