Don’t get me wrong, Shane Mosley will be a first ballot hall of fame inductee but do we really want to see Pacquiao fight him next? Shane was blown out by Floyd Mayweather and fought to a draw against Sergio Mora in his last two efforts. If father time has indeed caught up with him, I wonder what a Manny Pacquiao would end up doing to him? OR, will Mosley surprise people and be back to his old ways, the way he tore apart Margarito?
I think most boxing fans would rather see Pacquiao take on Juan Manuel Marquez, or even an Andre Berto before a Shane Mosley. Marquez is the only guy in recent times that has given Pacquiao trouble. If they can get that fight done at 140lbs, I think Marquez is as dangerous an opponent for Pacquiao than anyone else in boxing. Berto on the other hand is a young less experienced fighter, but his youth and speed would be enough to make that fight competitive as well.
If Mosley brings what he brought Mayweather and Mora to Manny Pacquiao, he will be inspecting the inside of his eye lids early. But you never know, Mosley could end up fighting the fight of his life against Pacquiao. It’s possible that he would, but not probable.
Floyd Mayweather obviously would be the first preference by most, but since that’s not likely to happen it appears as if Mosley has gained the front runner spot. As of right now the list of possible opponents lines up like this –
1- Shane Mosley
2 – Juan Manuel Marquez
3 – Andre Berto
4 – Sergio Martinez
Mosley isn’t the fight that most fans want to see. Marquez is probably leading the pack as far as the fans go, this of course with Mayweather out of the picture. Berto is probably right behind Marquez, and Martinez is next. Sergio Martinez is probably just a bit too big. Pacquiao beat up the much bigger Margarito, but the victory didn’t come at no cost. Manny hurt his hand, and the body-shots that he received hurt him. Pacquiao was very sore after that fight, make no mistake about that. A fight Vs. Martinez would be a big challenge, and something that Pacquiao doesn’t have to do. Manny has nothing to prove anymore. He’s beat up guys his own size, and guys 20 pounds heavier. Fighting Martinez does nothing for him, and in my opinion he should stay away from that fight.
Mississippians want Mayweather Vs. Pacquiao first. They know however that it’s not likely to happen. I spoke to several Mississippi fight fans at the StrikeForce card in Jackson a few weeks ago. Although many in the crowd were MMA fans, as soon as Pacquiao’s name came up, it got attention. Most of the fans I spoke with want a Marquez Vs. Pacquiao trilogy fight. If it’s not going to be Mayweather, then it should be Marquez. That’s the general feeling here in Mississippi.
Mosley Vs. Pacquiao? I would watch it, but would rather see Marquez Vs. Pacquiao. Those are just my thoughts.
