Arum planning Cotto – Margarito II in June?

Top Rank’s main man Bob Arum is cooking a June boxing extravaganza in New York City headlined by a rematch between Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto and Mexian-American Antonio Margarito.

In comments to Puerto Rican newspaper Primera Hora, Arum stated that if a fight between Miguel Cotto and Julio Cesar Chavez Junior fails to materialize for March 2011, he is planning a jam packed card at Madison Square Garden during June.

Chavez Junior has made it clear that he would like to challenge the WBA junior middleweight champion Cotto, if successful against Pawel Wolak next Saturday.

It seems Arum might know something the rest of us do not, as he is already putting out potential spin for a Cotto – Chavez no go.

Arum will promote Cotto vs. Margarito during the same time as New York’s Puerto Rican Day Parade, in what has become a regular tradition for the Puerto Rican stand-out.

Along with a Cotto – Margarito battle, Arum hinted at Julio Cesar Chavez Junior fighting on the proposed card against hometown fighter Yuri Foreman.

The details for Cotto’s future are still unclear and Arum plans to sit down with his fighter on December 4th, when the pair will be in Anaheim, California to witness Chavez’s fight.

There will be naysayers if Cotto – Margarito II comes into fruition, since the “Tijuana Tornado” has a record of 1-2 in his last three fights and was demolished by Manny Pacquiao earlier in this month and is still living down his suspension for having plaster-like elements in his hand-wraps before a fight with Shane Mosley.
