CASUAL TALK from Yahoo Contributor Network, Anaheim, California – If you think Nonito Donaire, Jr. has something to prove tonight against Volodymyr Sydorenko for the interim WBA World bantamweight title at the Honda Center in Anaheim, then you must be looking at a wrong angle.
Let me tell you this: There’s no way Donaire, Jr. will lose this fight. He is too skillful, too intelligent and far stronger for the man from Ukraine. I doubt this fight will last twelve rounds. It is simply a mismatched. Even Sportsbetting.com does not bother to post betting avenues for this match. It’s Pay-per-View (PPV) appeal may seem to be out of sync and may just prove nothing more than just a disaster for Top Rank’s rating on Donaire, Jr. promotions.
While it’s too late to cancel the whole event after the originally main highlight of the fight night is modified because the Chilango from Sinaloa, Mexico, Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr., has been suffering from influenza virus and fluctuating high fever, Top Rank may have just made timely decision to repackage Donaire, Jr. up for PPV testing in the main event. I am sure the PPV buys may not be wholesome. But, it’s going to be a sort of good start. Top Rank must be persistent in paving the best for Donaire, Jr.
Yes, I do have lots of reservations in the matching Donaire, Jr. against much less competitive fighters because there’s always that element of surprise beyond the artifice of a great fighter. I grossly undervalue all his fights after his stunning performance over Vic Darchinyan whom he knocked out cold in round five back in 2007 . It’s not that I don’t like Donaire, Jr. He’s a good guy, humble and very approachable. It’s just I do not subscribe to all wide disparities of simply matching his superior skills with all these nonetheless less formidable opponents. I think Donaire, Jr.’s ring skills and intelligence far exceed the perceived capabilities of the opponents his camp has chosen for him to fight. His total complexity as a fighter truly has not been tested yet.
Rated No. 1 in the Super Flyweight division, with great potential to move up to the Super Featherweight division, Donaire, Jr. surely deserves better fights and better exposure. And it’s high time to maximize the talent(s) he has while he is still in his prime years.
Top Rank cannot just procrastinate!
