Famed boxing photographer Michael “Mickey” Brennan, a Fighting Irishman now based in balmy Costa Rica, checks in with yet another timely and exclusive shot.
Henrietta King, age 87 and battling cancer at her Florida home, is shown in a happier time, June 12, 1997, when her promoter husband, Don, was inducted into the International Boxing Hall Of Fame in Canastota, New York.
This photo was taken at a Hall Of Fame dinner in Syracuse as the Kings posed with two heavyweight bookends, two real legends of the prize ring, Muhammad Ali and Larry Holmes.
Mrs. King has generally stayed in the publicity background during her husband’s colorful and often contrversial career.
She was honored by the Cleveland NAACP chapter at a mid-1990s dinner. The Kings met and married in that Ohio city.
King revealed to me on Thursday that Floyd Mayweather Jr. has been a source of solace to him and to the rest of the family in a trying time.
Mayweather has been a regular visitor to the King oceanfront estate in Manalapan (near Palm Beach) and has also attended two or three recent Miami Heat home games.
Speculation continues to mount that Mayweather and King, age 79, may link up promotionally.
