MANILA, Philippines — Manny Pacquiao for President?
?Huwag naman (I hope not). Let?s not devalue the presidency,? so said Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile.
?I?m not saying he?s not qualified. Anybody is qualified to be president but I doubt whether he can really handle the job as the president of the country,? he said of the world-boxing champ turned representative of Saranggani province.
Told that Pacquiao, who just claimed another victory over Mexican Antonio Margarito, still has 12 years to prepare for the presidency, Enrile said, ?Well, he?d better get a Socrates…?
Asked why Socrates, the Senate leader said, ?Because he [Pacquiao] must learn the meaning of life. Aristotle is a philosopher.?
While saying that anyone can become president, the Senate leader said Pacquiao would not measure based on his own standards.
?Anybody can become president but you are asking me about my standard for the presidency. I?m sorry to say that he will not measure,? said Enrile.
?Pag naging president ?yung tao?kayo ba gusto n?yo na mangyari ?yun sa bansa natin? (If he becomes president?do you want that for our country?)? he further said.
