Pacquiao Vs Margarito: Looking Back, Was It Too Bloody? In last Saturday?s Junior Welter-weight Championship, the world of Boxing witnessed how even after being beaten brutally by his opponent Manny Pacquiao, Antonio Margarito refused to give up right through to the end.
By the eighth round of the match, Pacquiao had boxed the Mexican?s eye shut. Margarito?s right eye was bloodied and swollen. Although Pacquiao eyed Margarito?s handlers to stop, but the camp of the ?Tijuana Tornado? let the fight go on, clearly ignoring that Margarito couldn’t stand the skill with which Pacquiao was fighting. His chief trainer Roberto Garcia was probably expecting a last minute miracle to happen and turn tables in the match.
The various reasons due to which a title match can be stopped mid-way are a few; when one of the fighters refuses to continue, or before the start of the next round, corner stop the fight, or if the referee stops the fight, and in case the ringside doctor doesn?t allow a fighter to continue due to injuries suffered during the combat. The Mexican commented that he couldn’t have stopped mid-way, that he’s a Mexican and that’s not how he would do it.
It?s the authority?s job to save a fighter getting seriously injured in a fight. Even if Margarito did not want to quit half-way, the superior authority should have had a better calling. By the end of the fight, the Mexican?s face was full of blood. In fact, Freddie Roach, Pacquiao?s chief trainer showed concern over his condition saying that the injuries occurred were severe enough that he may never be able to fight.
The incident definitely brings up the question of how much is too much.
