Marquez vs. Katsidis- Many felt and many will continue to feel that the clash should not have been stopped. #1. This was the fight of the year. #2. When you have a warrior like Katsidis who as we all know fights in the kill or be killed style of fighting, then when you add in the fact that this warrior is coming in with a heavy heart, you as referee of this fight must know that grief will keep him up no matter what. A cannon ball could have hit Katsidis dead on and Katsidis would have still stayed up last night. So knowing this, and knowing that Marquez was becoming more and more accurate with his shots, why allow Katsidis who by the way had already lost all the steam in his punches to continue on taking 4,5, or 6 punch combinations for 3 more rounds? For what? I?m sure that Katsidis?s health came first to Bayless?s trained eye. Truth be told, the only way Katsidis would have won last night is if he had knocked out Marquez in round 10,11, or 12. If Katsidis couldn?t put Marquez away in round 3 when Katsidis landed his shot at full steam with a full tank, what makes you think that Katsidis could have knocked Marquez out with no steam and an empty tank?
So does Marquez want another shot at Pacquiao? Of course he does, unlike Mayweather, Marquez has no fear what so ever in facing Pacquiao. Now does Marquez need a third shot at Pacquiao? Absolutely Not! Once again my friends, want and need are two completely different things. For the fight to take place, it would need to take place at 140 pounds. Can Pacquiao make 140? Yes he can. Can Marquez make 140? Of course he can. But one thing that Marquez/Mayweather showed me is that Marquez belongs nowhere north of 135 pounds. Marquez is a lightweight, not a junior welterweight and certainly not a welterweight. I think the world of Marquez, in fact, I feel that Marquez is the best combination puncher on the planet. Best combination puncher that I have seen since Ricardo Finito Lopez. In my honest opinion, I feel that THIS Pacquiao would crush Marquez if the fight took place anywhere above 135 pounds. When it?s all said and done, Marquez will go down as not just a first ballot Hall of Famer, but also as the man that gave the mighty Pacquiao the toughest fight. Oh and in my book, Juan Manuel Marquez will go down as one of the best combination punchers that I have ever seen.
Caballero vs. Litzau- This was an ugly fight, plain ugly. I felt the fight was somewhat close and I could see how in some eyes the fight could have gone either way. I personally felt Caballero was scoring good when he fired the jab, but Litzau to me landed cleaner harder shots. To Caballero I would say that you could have made this a very easy fight had you fought the way you fought Yordan in your last fight, but if you train half ass then you will perform half ass. If I?m Caballero, I seek the rematch and make things right. Kudos to Litzau for taking advantage of a big opportunity.
Andre Berto- Time to step up son, show and prove. The big fish are waiting to be fried.
Froch vs. Abraham- Going in to this fight I thought that this would be a fight of the year type of clash, boy was I wrong. It could have been a great fight had the right Arthur Abraham showed up. Abraham just did not let his hands go enough. At times the fight looked like Pacquiao/Clottey, one fighter punching away and the other just covering up. I love Froch and his in your face style of fighting, but I love his girlfriend Rachael Cordingley even more. Who do I need to talk to at Showtime to get them to replace Gus Johnson with Rachael Cordingley? I?m just saying.
Ward vs. Bika- Bika came in determined as heck to make it a dog fight against Andre Ward. Thing is that Ward is such a complete fighter that it doesn?t matter what you bring, Ward can box you or straight up brawl with you. It was a dirty dog fight and Bika was game, but Ward landed more shots.No real surprises here, Ward delivers down the stretch.
