MANILA, Philippines – Eight-division boxing champ Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to undergo an MRI and x-ray despite getting a clean bill of health after his victory over Mexican pugilist Antonio Margarito.
A Filipino doctor examined Pacquiao at the People’s Champ’s Los Angeles home after Pacquiao complained of pain on his right side.
The doctor said Pacquiao was OK but advised that he get an MRI and x-ray as standard procedure after the fight.
Pacquiao drove himself to the hospital along with his wife, Jinkee.
Pacquiao scored a unanimous decision victory over Margarito for the WBC junior middleweight (154 pounds) title. It was his eighth championship over as many weight classes.
The boxer who is also a congressman earlier said he was lucky because he was able to overcome Margarito?s punches to his body and face.
On the other hand, Pacquiao left his opponent with a puffed left eye and a cut under a badly swollen right eye.
The Mexican had to be confined at a Dallas hospital due to a fractured right eye socket.
“Margarito has a fractured right orbital bone,” Lee Samuels, spokesman for fight promoter Bob Arum, told Reuters on Monday. “He was banged up pretty bad.
“After the fight was over, he had some stitchwork done in the locker room. They put six stitches in his right cheek and three through his right eyebrow.” Report by Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News
