*Have you ever seen so much smiling at a weigh in from two fighters a day away from beating the snot out of each other?
*That being said, both fighters looked in top physical form.
*Manny Pacquiao weighs in at 144.6 pounds? Antonio Margarito will be the much larger man in this fight.
*For a man with a second chance, Margarito is working hard to raise questions of whether he deserves it or not. From mock wrapping various large objects to his hand to his latest mockery of Freddie Roach?s physical maladies due to Parkinson?s disease, perhaps the ring is the wrong place for Antonio Margarito to seek redemption.
*Brandon Rios, a young boxer whose rise from the streets is inspiring and promising, also has some growing to do.
*Margarito?s antics are making Floyd Mayweather look like Floyd Patterson.
*It was speculated before the current 24/7 series aired that HBO would make Margarito look like a villain to try to sell the fight. Margarito did a good enough job by himself.
*?The Pussycat of Prizefighting: Tiger Flowers and the Politics of Black Celebrity by Andrew M. Kaye is a book that deals with the important cultural elements of boxing and the difficult and shameful racial climate in the United States in the early years of the twentieth century. From the little information we have about Flowers, it is an intriguing story about straddling the line of what is acceptable while staying respectable. A great read.
*A great quote from Larry Merchant as the Miguel Cotto-Manny Pacquiao fight was getting underway that deserves repeat play today: ?Miguel Cotto was battered by an opponent who boxing believes had illegally loaded gloves, now he faces an opponent who has naturally loaded gloves. How will Cotto deal with Pacquiao?s power??
?The best name for the Pacquiao-Margarito fight given to us by readers on our comment board ? ?The Perfect Storm? coming by way of apo ni juan.
*Lopez-Marquez, Pacquiao-Margarito and Williams-Martinez in back-to-back-to-back weeks?. who said boxing was dead?
*I?ll take Pacquiao to win, but the Williams-Martinez fight is just too close to call ? a can?t miss.
*If Pacquiao finds a way past Margarito, the Mayweather deadline clock will be wound back.
*Vacation is over.
