EIGHT-TITLE boxing champ and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao will arrive to a hero?s welcome on Monday. He will be awarded the congressional medal of distinction from his colleagues.
Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr. has tasked An Waray Rep. Florencio “Bem” Noel and Yacap Rep. Carol Jane Lopez to head the welcoming committee for Pacquiao who won the WBC super welterweight crown against Mexican Antonio Margarito.
Noel said the House will throw a party for Pacquiao who is expected to sing with a live band at the south lounge of the Batasan Complex.
“Everyone is participating and everybody is contributing in their own little way to pay tribute to the greatness of Pacquiao,” he said.
Noel said packed lunches from a fast food chain will be distributed to all 3,800 officials and employees of the House.
Lopez said Pacquiao may also visit reporters at the media center and hold a brief press conference.
Congressmen last Monday adopted Resolution 625 granting Pacquiao the medal of distinction for his exemplary achievement in the sport of boxing.
The House has also adopted at least 20 resolutions commending Pacquiao, the only boxer elected to Congress. ? Wendell Vigilia
