GRAPEVINE, TEXAS?There is a new kind of comedy running rampant in boxing.
For example, I spotted Don Jose Sulaiman, WBC president, here in the Gaylord Texan Hotel lobby the other night and he was?here comes the punch line?sitting in a wheelchair.
Is that a laugh riot or what, sitting in a wheelchair?
I’m reminded we just observed or will observe World Diabetes Day and what provides more mirth and merriment than watching someone who has that debilitating and sometimes lethal disease jabbing (get the boxing reference) themselves with those sharp needles.
I mean, come on, funny is funny and that is tres amusing, no?
Any malaria victims in the house tonight or starving children? You guys really make me chuckle.
Big shoutout to those of with breast cancer or those who have survived a heart attack or two or three. That is also quite laugh-provoking.
Any wheezers battling asthma/bronchitis here tonight? I fall into paroxysms of laughter when I see you guys straining to breathe or reaching for the rescue inhaler? That’s fun stuff, actually.
But, if you really want big belly laughs in boxing, how about how Muhammad Ali has trouble speaking clearly and trembles like a leaf because of his Parkinson’s Syndrome?
Remember, his shimmy shimmy shaking when he lit the Olympic flame in Atlanta? That was worthy of a Richard Pryor or Dave Chappelle skit, wasn’t it?
Or, going back further, how about when Benny ?Kid? Paret died after being hammered on national TV by Emile Griffith and a geriatric referee let it go too long?
Another comedic classic, eh?
Not to mention the dying Duk Koo Kim going out of the ring on a stretcher and being rushed into an ambulance after the bout with Ray ?Boom Boom? Mancini.
That was quite the knee-slapper as I recall.
Antonio Margarito and protege Brandon ?Bam Bam? Rios, two active fighters, have brought trash talking to a new and lower level with their mocking of Freddie Roach quivering due to his Parkison’s condition.
This pair may be a threat to Don Rickles or Dane Cook the way they are rolling.
Roach’s illness is a result of his boxing career, no doubt.
I wonder if ?Margacheato? and ?Bam Bam? are working up a trembling Michael J. Fox impression next?
That should really be funny.
Let’s hope that neither Margarito nor Rios ever get maimed or killed as a result of taking punches on their job.
Let’s hope that neither one gets Parkison’s or puglistica dementia or any other disease which robs them of their physical and/or mental powers.
That would not be so funny, now would it?
But, meanwhile, sit back and yuk it up as the boys go for the boffo laughter with their Roach imitations.
It’s boxing’s new and most virulent style of ?comedy.?
We present you with the “comedy stylings” of two nincompoops named Margarito and Rios.
Don’t forget to tip your waitress, they are working hard and someday, with any luck they will be old, crippled or otherwise infirm.
