No revenge for Pacquiao as Morales goes heavier

FILIPINO boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao will not get a shot at vengeance against Erik “El Terrible” Morales.

The other day, the Mexican legend Morales announced that he will most likely be moving up into the bigger lightweight division, depending on an important unification fight involving one of his close friends.

Morales, who is currently enjoying a well-deserved vacation at the Bahamas with girlfriend Andrea Mora, revealed to the Mexican boxing media that he is still awaiting the result of the May 7 lightweight unification battle between World Boxing Council (WBC) champ Jose Luis Castillo and World Boxing Organization (WBO) titleholder Diego Corrales before he can decide on his next move.

Morales indicated that if his good friend Castillo comes out victorious in this highly-anticipated bout, his next fight might be for the WBC lightweight title, which Castillo will immediately vacate to campaign in the higher 140-lb super lightweight division.

Earlier, Morales had indicated that HBO is already lining up a July date for his next fight.

“Especially if Jose Luis wins against Corrales, he will move up to super lightweight and I can dispute for the WBC lightweight title which he will leave vacant,” Morales stressed, virtually closing the door for a planned rematch with Pacquiao, who had also informed earlier that he will remain as a junior lightweight.

Should a rematch with Morales get shelved, Pacquiao’s other option for a pay-per-view bout would be WBC junior lightweight king Marco Antonio Barrera in a grudge rematch, provided that the Mexican gets past the quick-moving, fast-jabbing Mzonke Fana on April 9.

Unfortunately, Barrera does not seem interested in a rematch with Pacquiao, who handed him the worst beating in his career last year.

Barrera said three days ago that a match with Pacquiao may not be too logical, considering that if he beats the Filipino superstar, people might start saying he beat the man who was already cracked easy by Morales, whom he had beaten twice in the past.
