If Manny Pacquiao thinks that he could get rid of his US-based promoter Murad Muhammad that easy, then he could be wrong.
Pacquiao, according to a reliable source, will have to go through a very difficult or very expensive process before he gets the sweet-talking promoter off his back.
Even before he fought Mexico?s Erik Morales at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas more than a week ago, Pacquiao has sounded off his plans to get rid of Muhammad.
The American promoter who talks as fast as Pacquiao throws his punches is being accused of making more money that the Filipino fighter.
“Aalis na ako talaga kay Murad. Mas malaki pa kasi ang kinikita niya kaysa sa akin. Hindi tama yun kasi ako ang nakikipag-bugbugan sa ring. Dapat ako ang mas malaki ang kinikita,” said Paquiao the other day.
“Hindi tama yun,” he added. “Kayang-kaya ayusin ?yan ng manager ko na si Shelly Finkel. So huwag po kayo mag-alala. Siguro tama na ?yun. Malaki na din ang kinita niya sa akin. Hindi na siguro siya na-agrabyado.”
Pacquiao and those near him rued the fact that the 26-year-old featherweight from Gen. Santos City did not get a single centavo from the pay-per-view revenues of the recent fight described by HBO as a blockbuster.
But Muhammad said it?s all part of the deal and Pacquiao knew beforehand that with a fixed purse of $1.750 million, he would no longer have any share in the pay-per-view earnings.
Finkel and Muhammad are not the best of friends as noticed before, during and after Pacquiao?s recent fight in Las Vegas.
The Filipino lost a 12-round unanimous decision to Morales and will have to prove himself once again before landing a fight as enormous as the one he had against the skillful Mexican boxer.
Muhammad linked up with Pacquiao more than three years ago where they both signed a hefty contract. A new contract has reportedly been signed, meaning Muhammad still has the right over Pacquiao?s promotions.
“It?s been said that some people who really understand boxing have seen the contract and they described it as air-tight,” said the source. “Kaya kung talagang may kontrata pa, hindi ganoon kadali na mapapatalsik ni Pacquiao si Murad.”
A buy-out of the contract, which could run up to millions of dollars, could be an option for Pacquiao. But with his recent loss to Morales, money isn?t all flowing Pacquiao?s way.
