Perhaps Manny Pacquiao’s first foray into the pungent swamp that is American politics was misdirected.
Even Stevie Wonder can see that if embattled Nevada Sen. and House Whip Harry Reid wasn’t a bosom buddy of Pacman promoter Bob Arum, Pacquiao would not have flown into Las Vegas from LA and back on a grueling training (roadwork in the morning, heavy mitt work and exercises in the afternoon) to participate in a Reid rally.
There are signs that Reid may nip Tea Partyish Sharron Angle in what may be America’s most intense and closely watched midterm election fight.
What’s been overlooked is how Angle’s team first injected Pacman’s name into the campaign when some of them wore “MANNY KNOWS” and other Pacquiao teeshirts as they worked the crowd at a Filipino Festival in Las Vegas. There is a sizable amount of Filipinos in Southern Nevada and there is a neighborhood near the Las Vegas Hilton which locals refer to as “Little Manila.”

My question is why didn’t Pacquaio, more appropriately, go to the aid of California Sen. Barbara Boxer?
Then we could’ve labeled it the New Boxer Rebellion as the longtime incumbent, also a Democratic, tries to fend off the deep pockets of former Hewlett Packard boss lady Carly Fiorina.
Putting puns aside and overlooking the Reid-Arum link, supporting Reid and the party of historically helping the middle and lower economic classes makes sense for the Congressmanny from Sarangani.
Pacquiao is Mr. Moneybags now but he came from the masses, not the upper classes and his stated mission is to bring a hospital, a college and other sorely needed facilties to a province where the World Bank has reported a mean daily income of $1.25 per day.
Consider that I had a $2.75 order of brown rice from a Chinese takout joint near my Manhattan office Sunday night and that puts economic conditions in his district in perspective.
I won’t even mention my $4.25 steamed vegetetable dumplings.
Angle and her ilk, Sarah Palin, Jim DeMent and the rest stand for less “intrusion” of the federal government or so they say.
Don’t you just hate it when the feds (read Obama, most Democrats and likemind Republicans) shove health care and Social Security down your throat?
Nasty Obama wants to raise taxes for those making over $250,000 a year, imagine that.
Multimillionaire Arum falls in that wealth categroy yet I find it instructive that the former Robert F. Kennedy Justice Department lawyer remains true to his blue collar Brooklyn roots. Elephants aren’t the only ones who do not forget.
Me, I usually vote for the Kennedy of my choice although they’re in short supply. But I don’t forget that it was Democrat from Texas Lyndon Baines Johnson, aligned with those from his party outside the South and the liberal and moderate Republicans who flourished in the 1960s, who pushed through the landmark Civil Rights Act (1965).
By battling for Reid, by standing with a Democratic strongman, Manny did not make himself out to be any kind of a donkey although that is the party’s historic symbol.
But, for a guy who goal is to lift millions of Pinoys out of or to alleviate their poverty. it would have been hypocritical not to mention idiotic to stand with the GOP.
Better to bray like a donkey than to make like Dumbo, I always say.
I’m Michael Marley, I approved this message and I think Delaware Tea Party hopeful Christine O’Donnell is sort of cute in a bewitching kind of way.
I will refrain from any cheap “broom” jokes.
