Pacquiao readies suit vs Murad Muhammad

Manny Pacquiao will file a case against American promoter Murad Muhammad for not giving his 40 percent share in pay-per-view proceeds in the classic fight against Mexican Erik Morales last March 20.

Pacquiao yesterday made the revelation and added he is already consulting his legal counsel on how to go about the case.

?I could have earned several millions had Murad paid me my 40 percent share from the earnings of the pay per view,? Pacquiao told a press conference here.

Pacquiao was actually assured of $1.75 million, his biggest paycheck ever, whether he wins or loses the non-title fight against the Mexican who won via unanimous decision.

He entitled to the pay-per-view proceeds, which was reported to have reached a staggering 350,000 buys or $15.75 million, far better than the Morales’ third outing against Marco Antonio Barrera that drew 325,000 buys.

He said the 40 percent share was provided in the existing sharing agreement between the promoter and boxers (40 percent for Pacquiao, 40 percent for Morales and 20 percent for Muhammad).

Muhammad, according to Pacquiao, allegedly earned some $3 million.

He also questioned the decision of Muhammad who agreed to use the Japanese-made Winning gloves as against his choice of Mexican-made Cleto Reyes without his consent.

Pacquiao also complained that Muhammad took the suite room hotel reservation for him and instead gave him the junior suite, where visitors and well-wishers distracted him.

Pacquiao also admitted that he really lacked focus during the training because of his extra-curricular activities like doing shooting with a television show.

Pacquiao was given a hero’s welcome by local officials led by City Mayor Pedro Acharon and fans last Sunday.

On Monday, he graced the opening of the Cotabato Regional Athletic Association Meet where he lighted the friendship urn amid the more 5,000 sports delegates and officials.
