I’m not saying that Margarito will win this fight, but I will say this much, the two training camps are like night and day. It’s obvious that there are some issues going on inside of team Pacquiao. The reports are true that Pacquiao had trouble in sparring with Amir Khan, and Roach has not been to pleased with things up until yesterday. I spoke with Freddie about the status of this camp, and although he said things are back on track, I didn’t get the same feel of confidence that I usually get from him.
On the contrary, the Antonio Margarito camp about an hour and a half drive from Wild Card is like a well oiled machine. The atmosphere of the gym is great, the mood is great, the team is fired up and focused. I watched Margarito train for two days, and you can take this to the bank, he is ready.
Of course training and fighting in the ring against Manny Pacquiao can be two different things. Pacquiao in a good camp or a not so good camp is still a plate full to deal with. Roach is the best trainer out there, and until someone knocks Manny off of the hill, he’s still pound for pound king. Margarito will have his hands full on November 13th.
I arrived home in Mississippi today and wanted to get a few quotes from some fans about this fight. I spoke with Kelvin Johnson, who’s actually a Mayweather fan but wanted to share his thoughts on Margarito. Kelvin believes that Pacquiao may have bit off too much this time and will hit the weight wall, “I think Pacquiao may have stepped up one too many times in weight class. Tony is big and strong and he can take Manny’s punches. I think that this fight has the makings of a big upset.”
Pacquiao even if his camp has not gone well is still extremely dangerous. Margarito, who’s having a monster camp knows that Manny’s speed will be an issue, but he’s not scared about that. Tony believes that he will wear down Manny and he will be able to take anything that Manny can dish out.
November 13th is quickly approaching, and by midnight we will have our answers.
