Amir Khan caught in 160mph typhoon

The British WBA light-welterweight champion has been training in Baguio City – in the path of the mega-storm which led to mass evacuations of villages.

At least one person was killed as the storm hammered the country’s north, flooding roads and threatening to wipe out rice harvests and trigger mudslides.

A “state of calamity” has been declared. Shaken Amir, 23, said: “It’s a crazy typhoon, but we’re all safe. The rain is really bad.”

Super-typhoon Megi is expected to hit southern China today – where 140,000 people have already been evacuated.

It is feared the storm will then hit Vietnam, where flooding has already caused 30 deaths in recent days.

Flights in the Philippines’s north were cancelled yesterday but Amir, of Bolton, hopes to be able to leave the disaster-hit country this weekend.
