Juan Manuel Marquez says Chavez and Tyson already Hall of Famers

During a weekly appearance on ESPN Deportes Golpe a Golpe, lightweight boxing champion Juan Manuel Marquez declared that the possible induction of Julio Cesar Chavez and Mike Tyson into the International Boxing Hall of Fame is just a formality.

“The voting and enshrinement in Canastota, New York does not make them Hall of Famers,” said Marquez. “They are already Hall of Fame fighters because of what they did in the ring.”

Chavez and Tyson top the list of possible entrants into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 2011, along with Australia’s Kostya Tszyu.

The fighting pride of Sonora, Mexico and one of the Aztec nation’s most beloved sports figures, Chavez ended his career in 2005 with a record of 107 wins, 6 losses, and 2 draws, while winning championships in three weight divisions and considered the pound for pound best from 1990 through 1992 by The Ring magazine.

Tyson’s career also came to an end in 2005 with a record of 50 wins, 2 losses, and 2 no contests. “Iron” Mike was the undisputed heavyweight champion and the youngest heavyweight champion in the history of boxing.
