According to Ken Hershman of Showtime, Andre Dirrell has withdrawn from the Super Six tournament with an unspecified injury. Hershman dropped the bombshell during a media conference call on Thursday. Hershman refused to discuss the nature of the injury and said it would be up to Dirrell or his management to provide further details. Dirrell’s scheduled opponent, Andre Ward, will go ahead with a fight against a new opponent on November 27th, and Hershman said the Super Six will continue with the semi-finals to take place in 2011. Hershman said “he had a few options on the table” for Ward’s substitute and would likely make a decision tomorrow, but that Ward would likely be fighting in his hometown of Oakland, California. Also to be decided is whether Ward’s opponent will be eligible for the Super Six semi-finals. Dirrell now joins Jermain Taylor and Mikkel Kessler on the sidelines of the tournament, as half of the original players have fallen out with injuries sustained in the tournament.
