Mexican-American boxer Antonio Margarito and trainer Robert Garcia are predicting not just an upset, but a late stoppage of king of the ring Manny ?PacMan? Pacquiao and his renowned trainer Freddie Roach. And Margarito?s tactic to negate Pacquiao?s vaunted speed and power would be to apply ?sustained pressure.?
?This is the biggest fight of my life, and I?m confident I will win,? Margarito said in Tuesday in a phone interview from his training camp in Oxnard, California.
Speaking through Garcia, his head trainer, the 32-year-old Margarito said he is prepared for Pacquiao?s speed and punching power and predicted their fight ?will not go the distance.?
Garcia thinks the antidote against Pacquiao?s vaunted speed is ?sustained pressure,? and said they are ready for ?war in the ring.?
?We are prepared to pressure Pacquiao for three minutes in every round, gradually break down his game, and stop him in the later rounds,? said Garcia who owns and manages the famous Garcia Boxing Academy based in the coastal city of Oxnard in Southern California.
Margarito applied sustained pressure against Miguel Cotto in their July 26, 2008 fight which resulted in an 11th-round stoppage in favor of the Mexican American. But the discovery of tampered hand wraps in Margarito?s succeeding fight against Sugar Shane Mosley cast doubts on the authenticity of the Mexican-American?s win over Cotto, who is slightly bigger than Pacquiao.
