Floyd Mayweather echoes John Lennon: Give peace a chance

In the spirit of the 70th birthday of John Lennon and in my ongoing attempt to show a fair and balaced side of Floyd Mayweather Jr., I thought it would be good to review this three year old interview by Josh Slagter, Grand Rapids Press/MLive, in which “Money May” speaks on giving peace a chance.

Mayweather also raps out about Barack Obama’s candidacy, Hillary Clinton and whether U.S. servicemen and women really know why they’re risking life and limb in places like Afghanistan.

Oh, yeah, and Mayweater refuses to take a pot shot at George Bush.

This just came to mind when I saw the news item about Congressmanny Pacquiao leaving his training camp for a legislative sitdown with other elected leaders who will listen to President Noynoy Aquino in Manila.

It would behoove Mayweather to return to such weighty topics once in a while in his public discourse and get off the money/flashy women/making it rain train and the ethnic rants.

Floyd Jr. is not the dummy that some of you think he is.

It would be great to see he and Pacman sit down and kick it, rap about the state of boxing and the larger world, I think.

They could sit at the table of brotherhood and extend hands.
