Mexican great Juan Manuel Marquez cannot seem to shake the disappointment of fighting Manny Pacquiao to a razor-thin defeat in 2008 and a draw in 2004. While appearing on ESPN?s Golpe a Golpe Friday night, Marquez laid out his desired weight for an unlikely third fight with the Filipino.
?First Pacquiao would have to accept,? said Marquez before an international audience. ?But I would fight him at a catch-weight of 143 or 144 pounds.?
Marquez?s proposal would land the fight in between the traditional weight limits for junior welterweight and welterweight, a landscape Manny Pacquiao has left behind. On November 13, Pacquiao fights Antonio Margarito at a negotiated weight of 151 pounds.
One cannot blame Marquez for wanting one last crack at Pacquiao.
Freddy Hernandez looking to derail Andre Berto
Most of the talk surrounding American up and comer Andre Berto?s November 27 fight with Mexico City?s Freddy Hernandez focuses on the million dollar payday Berto will be receiving.
But once we get beyond the extraordinary purse HBO is providing Berto for a tune-up, Freddy Hernandez will be in the fight of his life.
Thirty-one years old and promoted by Gary Shaw, Fernandez was last seen on September 17 knocking-out Mike Anchondo in Primm, Nevada.
A fight against Berto is an opportunity, no matter how slim, for Fernandez to cement himself within the welterweight division.
Fernandez will come at 29 wins, one loss, and 20 knock-out victories, while Berto will test his undefeated record of 26 wins with 20 knock-outs.
