His alphabet title may be of the paper variety, but flyweight titlist Julio Cesar Miranda is certainly carrying himself like a throwback champion these days.
The Colombian banger, who picked up a vacant belt just four months, made his second successful defense on Saturday evening with a second round stoppage against overmatched Michael Arango at Estadio de Beisbol in Monterrey, Mexico.
Both fighters weighed in at the flyweight limit of 112 lb.
It was hardly a question of who was going to win, just a matter of how quick Miranda could get the job done.
To the delight of his countrymen in attendance, it didn?t take very long at all, as Arango was an all too willing target. The challenger?s bravery actually made for an entertaining opening round, though dominated by Miranda, who seemed to duck every punch thrown his way and land one in return during every exchange.
Arango never had a chance to get untracked in the second. Miranda recognized his opponent?s swiss cheese-like defense and immediately went on the attack. A right hand left the fringe contender on rubber legs, dancing across the ring as Miranda loaded up for the follow-up attack.
A pair of left hooks against a defenseless Arango prompted referee Russell Mora to jump in and rescue the wobbly Colombian.
