Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer reportedly has interest in putting together a fight between Floyd Mayweather and Amir Khan, should Khan get by a very real test against Marcos Maidana in December.
?It?s in that same sense of putting big fights together,? Schaefer told BoxingScene.com in regards to the fight. ?If you have Amir Khan who is going to clean up the 140-pound division and be the last man standing there. with his speed and power I can imagine this is a fight fans want to see.?
Really?
This statement is not only at odds with the true wishes of fight fans, but at odds with the questionable words of Mayweather from the beginning of the month.
?I?m on vacation for about a year, about a year,? Mayweather said. ?As soon as we come off vacation, we?re going to cook that little yellow chump. We ain?t worried about that. So they ain?t gotta worry about me fighting the midget. Once I kick the midget ass, I don?t want you all to jump on my d?. So you all better get on the bandwagon now. ? Once I stomp the midget, I?ll make that mother f?? make me a sushi roll and cook me some rice.?
Barring a Pacquiao defeat at the hands of Antonio Margarito or Mayweather legal trouble, that would set up a Pacquiao-Mayweather clash sometime in spring 2011.
