HBO Boxing Boss Ross Greenburg speaks on Mayweather vs Pacquiao

According to HBO Sports President Ross Greenburg, his TV Network is still hopeful that Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd “Money” Mayweather Jr. will happen in 2011. Greenburg certainly is not a stupid man (far from it) and instead of rushing out to make easy mega money on the fight, he feels “Money” Mayweather Jr’s needs to deal with personal issues and legal problems (allegations of abuse and theft from his ex-girlfriend) first.

Quoted recently by USA Today, Greenburg in regards to a Pacman vs. Money fight, stated: “Clearly, Floyd needs to

deal with his legal and personal issues at the moment.”

Greenburg went on to add: “When he resumes his boxing career, our hope is that he will want to cement his legacy as one of the all-time greats and meet his top challenge: Manny Pacquiao. The sport needs it, and we remain hopeful this mega-fight can happen in 2011.”

It’s a Pay-Per-View event we all want to see, and one that will make the Network countless Millions… but it is nice to see Greenburg showing restraint and waiting for “Money” to deal with his personal issues first. With so much money on the table and the public’s interest at an all time high, one almost wouldn’t blame HBO if they tried in vain to push the fight now…. but thankfully it seems Greenburg and HBO seem to be taking the right approach.
