Scribe double dribbles, did not rate Klitschko over Mayweather, Pacquiao

It was a slip of the fingers so you can stop with the hate emails and death threats.

According to his Twitter page, all Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated did was the equivalent of a double dribble.

I suppose that’s appropriate as he covers the NBA and the fight game for the magazine.

Mannix cleaned up his error Wednesday, stating that he did not intend to opine that Wladimir Klitschko is the best boxer of his generation.

I’m sure that sent both Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. fans into panic attacks and plans of vengeance.

Blogger Tim Starks (The Queensbury Boxing Rules) ripped into Mannix for the opinion.

In Starks’ defense for his aggressive offense, he did attempt to reach Mannix to clarify that outrageous opinion but could not connect.

So now Mannix says, hey, my bad.

That’s why they put erasers on pencils, why we had copydesks filled with these folks called editors in the newspaper business. Magazines such as SI had paid factcheckers who vetted every written word.

There’s nothing controversial about calling WKlit the best heavyweight, the most dominant one or both of his generation.

And, as Mannix said, if Wald’s not then brother Vitali is. Unfortunately they will never exchange punches for untold riches.
