Meet Willie Limond

Up to now, Scottish boxer Willie Limond (33-2, 8 KOs) has been flying under the worldwide boxing radar, so to speak, fighting exclusively at home in Scotland, excluding two bouts in nearby London. Limond will have his coming out party on the world stage on Saturday night on the hallowed grounds of the Monumental Plaza de Toros in Mexico City against Mexican ring legend Erik Morales in a pay-per-view showdown.

The 31-year-old Limond turned pro November 12, 1999, winning a 1-round technical decision against Lenny Hodkins. Willie went on to win his first 18 pro fights, five by knockout, before being stopped by future WBO Interim champion ?Amazing? Alex Arthur (15-0) in the eighth round of their 2003 fight in Scotland for the BBB of C British super featherweight title.

In 2004, Limond won the vacant European Union super featherweight belt by way of a 10-round decision versus Youssouf Djibaba. Willie successfully defended that title once, taking a 10-round decision against Alberto Lopez.

Limond added the BBC of C Celtic super featherweight title to his growing collect ion with a win by points in a 10-round bout against Kevin O?Hara, followed two fights later by a 12- round decision versus Joshua Allotey for the vacant Commonwealth (British Empire) Lightweight Championship.

His victory against Allotey set the stage for his highest-profiled fight to date in his first Commonwealth title defense, at the famed O2 Arena in London, against 12-0 Amir Khan, the much-hyped 2004 British Olympic Silver Medalist. Limond, who brought a 28-1 record into the fight, floored Khan early but he retired after eight rounds against Khan, now the WBA Light Welterweight Champion. The fight wasn?t without controversy as many felt Khan received a long count for the aforementioned knockdown.

Limond bounced right back, however, capturing the vacant IBO Inter-Continental lightweight title by way of a 12-round decision versus Martin Watson. In May of 2009, Willie won the WBU light crown, defeating English champion Ryan Barrett with a 12-round unanimous decision.

In his last action (Nov. 15, 2009), Limond won a tune-up fight with an 8-round decision against Duncan Cottier.
