A legislator clarified Friday that the House of Representatives did not foot the bill for the tickets of some congressmen who flew to Las Vegas, Nevada to watch the Manny Pacquiao-Eric Morales fight.
Surigao del Norte Rep. Robert “Ace” Barbers told a weekly news forum at the Hotel Rembrandt that those who went to Las Vegas spent their own money for the trip.
“Watching the bout in the United States is not part of their capacity as lawmakers so they had to go there through at their expense,” said Barbers, who heads the House committee on accounts.
Barbers even joked that he was not able to fly to Las Vegas because the boxing ticket is so expensive.
“I?d rather watch the bout on TV so I can do other things while watching. Plus I can see a closer view of the fight,” he said.
The super featherweight fight between Pacquiao and Morales is expected to be a sell out, with only 2,000 of the 14,700 tickets at the MGM Grand Garden waiting to be sold just two days before the bout.
