Former three division champion, and future Hall of Famer, Erik Morales, won his second fight in a row after losing a 135 pound title bout to David Diaz in 2007. Morales, 34, defeated Willie Lemond (33-3, 8 KOs) at the Monumental Plaza de Toros Mexico in Mexico City, Saturday night. Morales (50-6, 35 KOs), defeated Lemond by 6th round knockout in the 143 pound bout.
Morales still has hopes of becoming the first Mexican fighter to win a title in 4 divisions. Juan Manuel Marquez has the same dream, and is the current 135 lb champion. There is talk of the two facing each other in the not too distant future in a bout, that surprisingly, has never happened. The common opponents include Manny Pacquiao and Marco Antonio Barrera. Marquez must first defend his title against Michael Katsidis on November 27th.
