THE devastated mum of shamed Ricky Hatton revealed last night how the boxer is determined to beat his problems.
And she said he wants to reclaim his crown as the “People’s Champion”.
Carol Hatton spoke out days after the former world champion admitted himself into rehab after being filmed in a hotel snorting cocaine.
She revealed how Ricky, 31, has been “depressed” since his defeats by Floyd Mayweather Jnr in December 2007 and Manny Pacquiao in May 2009.
Since then “The Hitman” has been drowning his sorrows during drinking sessions and sometimes been out boozing five nights in a row.
Carol, speaking at her home in Hyde, Greater Manchester, said: “After his two defeats he’s suffered such low self-esteem because he thinks he’s let people down. And that’s when the depression kicked in.
“He thinks about all those people who went to Las Vegas and how expensive it was for them which I think played on his mind and the fact that it was such a very short fight.
“It is such a hard pill to swallow when you lose in such a way.”
Meanwhile, it was revealed yesterday that the blonde who was in the hotel room with Ricky is getting death threats.
