EXCLUSIVE SIDE BAR COMMENTARY from Filipino Celebrity Headlines Examiner, LAS VEGAS, Nevada – Miss Philippines Maria Venus Raj fell short of her chance to capture the crown of Miss Universe 2010. The final question she had was one of winning chance to explore her weaknesses and make them into a positive light.
The question: “What is one big mistake you’ve made and what did you do to make it right?
Her answer: “Thank you so much, Sir, for that wonderful question. Good evening, Ladies and gentlemen! Good evening, Las Vegas! You know what, Sir, in my 22 years of existence, I can say there’s nothing major, major…I mean, problem I have done in my life because I am very confident with my family, with the love they are giving to me. So, thank you so much that I am here. Thank you. Thank you so much.”
Miss Philippines may have been so nervous. She lost focus that her answer to such winning question was probably the most unintelligible answer. The question could have given her the most revealing chance to demonstrate humility, honesty or transparency and she could have shown a spirited testimony. To many, it was less humbling for her to suppress transparency about her mistakes in life. She topped the online survey sponsored by the Miss Universe Organization. Many wondered if she ever were taught to answer rhetorical questions in a winning fashion by her speech trainer. Report had it she was not schooled to answer such old common question. Her pageant team must have lacked intellectual emphasis or was just banking too much of her educational distinction.
Raj obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Communications Arts, major in Journalism, at Bicol University in Albay, with Latin honors (Cum Laude). However, her answer to that purported question does not reveal her intelligence nor her capacity to convince the board of judges for the crown she was contesting.
Her answer was one of “dead-faith confidence”.
