In this short piece I put on my matchmaker cap and I put together the biggest and the baddest fight card of all. Before I do that however, I would like to start this off by saying that the entire diamondboxing.com family would like to let the Arum family know that our thoughts and prayers are with you in this time of need. For those that are unaware, the long search of John Arum has come to an end. The body of 49 year old son of Bob Arum was found. We are all here for you, as a father myself, I know that my greatest fear in life would be to out live my seed, Bob Arum faces that today so let?s all show him that we are all there for him.
Alright so we all know that Pacquiao vs. Mayweather is the biggest clash of all, I mean it has to be because it?s clearly the most anticipated. Back in 07 when De La Hoya/Mayweather put out The World Awaits, I felt that at that time the promoter failed to strike. At that time you had outsiders wanting to see that fight and I felt that we failed in delivering the type of show that brings in new fans. I feel that we may be to set in our ways, we at times think only about the ones we have and not about the ones we can get.
That is why now more than ever, if Pacquiao/Mayweather ever gets put together, we should be looking to strike diamonds this time around. Right now we have the most amount of people that do not follow the sport talking Pacquiao/Mayweather. We need to build off of that. The stage is ours, it?s time that we get the picture before the weapons are drawn. Let?s give them a card that presents them a future. Showing them our future gives them more to look forward to.
I also believe that to really make a killing, the fight should take place outside of the United States. This would be great for the fighters pockets because the money earned will not take a hit by those taxes but best of all this fight outside US soil forces everyone here to order the PPV so new fans will most definitely enter the world of boxing. Just imagine the 24/7 buildup show filmed over seas, the build up itself may be big enough to air the 24/7 on network television. Before I get carried away, here is my fight card hope you all enjoy.
Main Event- Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr.
Co- Main Event- Amir Khan vs. Victor Ortiz
Nonito Donaire vs. Abner Mares
James Kirkland vs. Vanes Martirosyan [I would prefer Fernando Guerrero, Shawn Porter, Omar Henry, David Lemieux or heck even Matt Korobov instead of Vanes but Vanes may be a little more ready for this, the other guys need more grooming.] I also realize that Kirkland just got out of the cage recently but I figure that by the time this fight is finally made that Kirkland would have already had a few get back fights by then. Is it just me or does Kirkland fight like Rubin ?Huricane? Carter?
I would also have young studs on the card like Jose Benavidez Jr., Frankie Gomez, Robert Marroquin, Jesse Vargas, Mike Dallas Jr. or Christian Martinez on deck.
Doing background stories on each fighter would also be very helpful. Khan vs Ortiz would be who will be next to carry the sport. Can Donaire take off from where Pacquiao left off? Can Ortiz fill the De La Hoya shoes left behind? Is James Kirkland the new Mike Tyson? Is Vanes the truth? I know that many of you will look at this and say that the promoters will not be able to put together enough cake to pay the fighters but the profit coming back from the Live gate and the PPV sales alone will take care of all that and much more.
