Free lobster and a trip to St. Louis, Don King getting hustled

The news cycle is fast in boxing, but I am sure we can remember back to the weekend of August, 7, 2010 when Floyd Mayweather Junior and Don King were in St. Louis together and boxing scribes around the globe were ready to rubber stamp their future promotional relationship.

Boxing fans and so starved and anxious for a fight between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather that they are ready to believe anything as long as it gives them an inkling of hope that the bout might take place before it loses all of its zing.

So while many believe that Floyd Mayweather will sign a promotion agreement with Don King, rumored to be at a four fights for a $100 million dollar minimum, I say the hustler finally got hustled.

Here we are in the final week of August and no peep from Mayweather on joining Don King.

For years Don King has been described as a man who can talk his way into just about any fighter?s world and do what he pleases, but this time around it looks like Mr. King is getting played by a younger adversary.

Pictures of Floyd Mayweather feasting on a $500 lobster ponied up by Don King, and ringside for Devon Alexander?s last fight courtesy of ole? Electric Hair make me chuckle; does anyone believe that Mayweather would join on of boxing?s most tyrannical promoters, when he himself loves to call the shots?

The thought of being back in boxing?s highest stage, one last time, is fueling King?s desire to sign Mayweather, but Don?s best days are behind him.

Believe that King is going to sign Mayweather and thus produce a Pacquiao fight, if you like, but all Floyd is doing is dining and living on other peoples money – a scam King just about perfected within the realm of boxing.

Floyd will fight, when he wants to fight, against the opponent he wants to fight – for better, or for worse.
