The legendary Freddie Roach told this writer this evening that Julio Cesar Chavez Jr will be heading to the Philippines to work with Manny Pacquiao. Chavez Jr has been mentioned as a front runner to face Miguel cotto in the near future. Working with Pacquiao helps both fighters to get ready.
Roach likes the way Chavez Jr is coming along, “He’s a lot better than I thought he was. I would like to see him in a tune up fight before Cotto, but we’ll see what happens. I’m going to take him with me to the Philippines so he can work with Manny to help get him ready for Margarito. The experience will be great for Chavez as well.”
When Pacquiao was in training for Joshua Clottey, Roach brought in Shawn Porter, a Jr Middleweight who is promoted by Mississippi based Prize fight Promotions. Porter gained extremely beneficial experience when he was working with Pacquiao. The same will be the case for Chavez Jr, who’s already turning into a better fighter under the tutelage of Freddie Roach.
Pacquiao’s first half of training will be in Manila, PI and will wrap up the last 4 weeks in Hollywood in October. I asked Roach if he thought Pacquiao would have any problems separating his congressional duties with boxing. Roach was not concerned about that at all, ” Manny assured me that there would be no conflict and I believe him. Manny has always been all business when training camp starts.”

Roach also predicts a Pacquiao knockout over Margarito, ” I predict a knockout in the later rounds, but we are not taking this guy (Margarito) lightly. He’s got a size advantage that we won’t take for granted.”
Recently Top Rank head Bob Arum met with Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, and reports are that the two had a very successful meeting. Arum is hoping to secure Texas Stadium as the venue of choice for the November Pacquiao Vs. Margarito showdown.
