Can Don King bring the money to Floyd Mayweather?

Floyd Mayweather Junior?s public flirtation with promoter Don King continues as Money will be present Saturday night when King?s junior welterweight Devon Alexander battles with Andriy Kotelink at St. Louis, Missouri.

If you were to believe the twisted tale, Mayweather is on the verge of signing a promotional entanglement with Ole? Electric Hair.

This writer believes the likely hood of Mayweather actually signing a promotional deal with King are slim, and none, for the simple reason that Don does not carry the weight or deep pockets he once did within the world of boxing.

For better, or worse, Pretty Boy has become accustomed to eight figure paydays when he steps inside a boxing ring.

Little Floyd?s loose promotional relationship with Golden Boy Promotions has given him access to HBO and large purses fueled by varied and intense marketing campaigns.

Most recently bouts with Golden Boy promoted fighters Oscar De La Hoya, Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, and Shane Mosley have stuffed Mayweather?s money bags.

If, and when he signs with Don King Promotions, Mayweather will be spitting in the face of Golden Boy and it is likely he will not get a crack to fight anyone under the Golden Boy banner or benefit from their cozy relationship with high profile sponsors or HBO.

How about Bob Arum?s stable of fighters at Top Rank, you may ask?

Unlikely, unless Arum and King could break bread on a Mayweather – Manny Pacquiao blockbuster for 2011.

Mayweather would be left to fight men under King?s promotional umbrella, or some other second tier promotional firm.

Floyd Mayweather vs. Devon Alexander … or against Luis Collazo? How about Mayweather in the heat of battle against Cory Spinks or Daniel Santos?

Interesting fights, to some, but not the sort of events which will fuel Mayweather?s fire to get in the ring, while coming up short at the bank.

Floyd Mayweather is too savvy to sign with King, or at least I hope he is.
