Sources are talking and it appears as if it is going to Margaritoville afterall. Bob Arum has been reportedly picked Antonio Margarito to be Manny Pacquiao’s next opponent. I do agree with Arum that this fight does appear to be a bit more competitive than a rematch against Miguel Cotto. A rematch against Cotto more than likely would end up the same way the first fight did, or worse.
A fight against Margarito in this writers opinion would be competitive for about 6 to 7 rounds. The taller Margarito has absolutely no reverse gear, and will choose to come forward every round. This will not bode well for him. Coming forward directly into Manny Pacquiao’s wheel- house, especially when you don’t move your head too well is a suicide mission.
Let’s take a look at this fight. Who has the speed advantage? Pacquiao, by a landslide. Who has the power advantage? Pacquiao does. Who moves quicker? Pacquiao does. Margarito has a height advantage, and a reach advantage, and that’s about it. Margarito will come forward and he will pay dearly for it.
According to reports, Arum wants to make this fight happen in Las Vegas, Mexico is an option as well. This all depends on the boxing license issue. Many people do not believe that Margarito deserves this opportunity. His cheating by using plaster on his hand against Miguel Cotto, could have killed the man. Nevertheless, if Arum made up his mind, then he’s made up his mind. At least it looks like we have a fight set for November 13th.
Looks like the wait for a Floyd Mayweather Vs. Manny Pacquiao fight will be longer. Perhaps that fight never happens, and honestly? A growing number of fans could care less if it does or not. There has been a really bad taste left in the mouth of thousands of fans who were waiting for that fight to happen. It never did, and it’s pissed off a lot of people.
Who knows, maybe we will get lucky and Margarito will step up and give the Pacman a good scrap. Time will tell.
