There is a growing buzz for a bantamweight bout between Fernando Montiel and Nonito Donaire after Top Rank Promotion’s lead man Bob Arum announced that the fight is taking place in November.
Montiel (43-2, 33 KOs) defeated Rafael Concepcion via third round knock-out Saturday night in Chiapas, Mexico and commented on his future opposition.
“There is speculation that Nonito Donaire or Eric Morel will be next for me,” said Montiel. “But I really want Vic Darchinyan.”
Donaire – Montiel would is one of the best fights to be made in boxing and a fight against Darchinyan for Montiel could be viewed as a let down for some.
Though Arum made public comments about a bout between Donaire and Montiel, Zanfer Promotions is Montiel’s official representation.
