(I was given the opportunity to interview Floyd Mayweather Jr exclusively via Facebook. Here it goes.)
Me: So Floyd, are you gonna sign that contract to fight Manny come July 15?
Floyd Mayweather Jr (FMJ): Who?
Me: Manny ?Pacman? Pacquiao.
FMJ: Yes, I will. But not too fast, my boy. I still have to think what year. (with a naughty and toothy grin).
Me: So you are not fighting Manny?
FMJ: Be careful what you wish for. I will fight that pretender to my throne. But not for less money and not after (counting the fingers in both hands then stop)? Hey look, Roy Jones and Bernard Hopkins. It took them ten years to finally agree to fight. Methinks we both can still do it down the road you know.
Me: But people are calling on you to fight Manny now.
FMJ: Those crazy people. Forget about them. They don?t want me to retire yet they want me to sign the deal now. Are they really serious about having me retire myself early?
Me: You mean, you are not fighting Manny?
FMJ: I am fighting him.
Me: So why not fight him now?
FMJ: You?re sounding like them, man.
Me: Okay, let?s change topic. Who is the better fighter, you or Manny.
FMJ: Manny is the better fighter. But I am the best. Got it?
Me: Why do you say so?
FMJ: Because I am. Look at my record man. Zero losses. How many champions have gone 41-0? That?s why I am the best. The greatest.
Me: But Muhammad Ali had already lay claim on that ‘The Greatest’ title yet he had many losses on his record as Manny now has.
FMJ: Man, where in hell did you come from? Didn?t I tell you I am the greatest?
Me: But you haven?t fought the best welterweights today. The likes of Miguel Cotto, Paul Williams and Antonio Margarito.
FMJ: Antonio Margarito beat Miguel Cotto, Cotto beat Shane Mosley. Shane Mosley beat Margarito. I beat Shane Mosely. You studied logic man?
Me: Manny beat Cotto, too.
FMJ: Then Manny can?t beat me until he beats Margarito and Mosley.
Me: What about Paul Williams?
FMJ: We are brothers, man. Brothers do not fight each other.
Me: You are brothers?
FMJ: Yes, brothers in arms. Get my spin?
Me: Okay. How much money will you take to fight Manny?
FMJ: There you go again. Ask me how much money will I give your Manny.
Me: How much?
FMJ: How much is Manny giving you for this interview?
Me: I don?t get a single penny from him.
FMJ: Then I will fight him with not a single penny for him. Now if he really is the best, fight me without asking for money. I got plenty to pay the IRS. Please, Manny fight me now sans the money.
