We all know how eagerly fans are waiting for Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather Jr. superfight. Now there are others who want to cash in on the two stars? popularity. Paul Williams plans to go back to his welterweight division, in order to earn big bucks in clashes against Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao.
Experts think that Williams?s height and reach, better than IBF/WBO heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko, will deter Mayweather and Pacquiao to face him. Williams, who until 2008 was fighting at welterweight, moved to light middleweight division to earn big money, but he failed to achieve his mission.
Though Williams hopes Mayweather and Pacquiao will fight him, the latter two fighters will find excuses to avoid him, experts say. Both the two fighters will probably avoid the fight arguing that Williams is not a welterweight, as he left that division to move up in weight. Besides, Pacquiao?s promoter Bob Arum may ignore Williams, as he doesn?t fight for the same promotional company that Pacquiao does. Even if the fight does take place, Williams could beat Pacquiao or the latter takes a beating in his win, experts say. Moreover, it will be Pacquiao who will do all the covering against Williams and not the other way round.
However, experts say it wouldn?t be correct to avoid fighting Williams, if is in the same class as Mayweather and Pacquiao. Moreover, if the latter two fighters are to be considered the NO. 1 in boxing, they should be willing to fight the top fighters in their weight division, irrespective of the rival?s stature or ability to throw more punches. However, experts believe that if Williams starts beating top fighters in the welterweight division, Mayweather and Pacquiao will be pressurized to fight him.
So while Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight is still to materialize, there are new angles emerging. Keep watching for more updates.
