The decision day is quickly arriving and we still do not have an answer as to whether or not Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao will fight. According to reports, Manny Pacquiao has agreed to everything, including random blood testing but Floyd has an issue with paying taxes this year and would rather wait until after the new year. There is still time for Floyd to step up and agree to fight, but as each day passes the people on team Pacquiao are feeling less optimistic about this fight happening in 2010. Of course anything can happen, and hopefully something will change and this fight can become a reality.

If the fight does push through in 2010, it will happen this November meaning that training camps for both fighters will start in September. Mayweather has just about ran out of chess moves. The time has come where he either needs to fight, or not fight. I will tell you this, if Floyd ops out of this fight you will see a reign of PR terror that has not been seen in boxing in many years, if ever. Floyd may never have been beaten in the ring, but his legacy will be dealt a brutal knockout if this fight does not happen.
If Floyd wants to cement his legacy as a truly great fighter who stepped up and took on the best, then he has to get by Pacquiao.
False reporting and trumped up headlines with no sources.
Boxing sites have been for the most part reporting that the negotiations have been up and down for quite sometime now. One in particular site, not worthy of mention has been reporting that the fight is done and that all that is needed is the fighters signatures on the finalized contracts. Really now? Well since this site reported this about a month ago, and we still have no fight, you can throw that piece of false reporting into the garbage can. If we are lucky, and the two sides do finally agree and we do get the announcement that we all hope for, it will be great for boxing.
PREDICTION – The obscure website that came up with the “Done deal except for signatures on finalized contracts” headline will jump up and down screaming that they are the ones who broke it first. A laughable claim at best, but this is what they will end up doing because of how they worded their trumped up false report. Anyone can slap up some ambiguous headline with no source, then let it sit for a month or two and hope they get lucky. You have a 50/50 chance of getting it right with a headline like that. When you have little to no traffic visiting your site, I guess 50/50 odds are good enough to take the risk.
Mississippians that I spoke with in Hattiesburg, MS still hope that the fight gets finalized. Jamie Gill of Hattiesburg, MS said this, “I am getting tired of waiting and have will probably not watch the fight. Floyd makes me sick with his big mouth and his attitude sucks.” I also spoke with Antonio Jones of Biloxi, MS and he supports Mayweather, ” Floyd is cleaning up the sport with his blood test demands. Look at how many other sports that exposed players using steroids. Manny is no exception, if the dude is clean then step up and give the blood.”
The announcement should take place in a week and it will go one of two ways. Either Mayweather agrees and we have the biggest fight in 50 years, or he does not and the PR beatdown begins.
