Persistent Myths About Mayweather-Pacquiao Situation:
I was tempted to use the headline “Big Bout Or Big Doubts For Mayweather” but I am attempting to be as fair and balanced as Fox News lately…
Michael Marley’s Daily Fluctuating Odds as we today salute a Great American Named Floyd Joy (nee Sinclair) Mayweather, Jr….
As of July 4, 2010, I say it’s an 80 percent chance Mayweather-Pacquiao is on for Nov. 13 in Las Vegas.
There’s a 10 percent chance both Money May and Pacman fight someone else and not each other in their next fight.
Do the math. That leaves a 10 percent chance that Mayweather and Pacman agree to terms but defer their fight into 2011. Then you have to wonder if Pacquiao would be stupid to take ?a tune up? bout which could ?tune out? the Mayweather bout. If Mayweather wants to wait until next year, he obviously will rest until then.
1 .If Mayweather Doesn’t Sign On About July 15, he will be more poultry than pugilist?Bob Arum boxed clever by making it appear to the public that Manny has agreed to all of Mayweather’s demands but this is surely not the case. Pacquiao did not roll over and beg in shoving the proposed deal back over to the other side of the table. No, what is sitting in front of Mayweather is what Pacman will accept. Mayweather is not going to swallow the package whole just as Pacquiao would not. Neither side gives the other a blank check.

2 .Mayweather ?hates? Pacquiao and vice versa?Tres absurd! These guys do not know each other on either a professional or social basis, and how can you hate a guy you might split $80 million with? They may dislike whatever image they have of the other guy but there’s not enough personal knowledge for personal hatred or anything close to it.
3. Floyd is ?afraid? of Manny?Another ridiculous notion for a master boxer whose pro record is an antispetic 41-0. Why would you be afraid of Manny but not afraid of Shane Mosley or Jose Luis Castillo? I just don’t get this one. Mayweather is afraid of besmirching his record but he’s much more afraid of losing the mammoth Pacman jackpot.
4 .Once the money split and the drug test regime is agreed to, The Fight is on?Not so fast there, Harry. You would be surprised not to mention annoyed if you knew how many important bouts were held up or never happened over seemingly trivial details such as who enters the ring first or because one fighter wants to dictate something like the brand of gloves both fighters must use. Or the fight could be delayed or derailed because of a dispute over really material terms such as foreign TV money or a rematch clause. For example, if a rematch clause is inserted, is it mandatory, optional as to both sides or can the winner call the tune for a second bout. I don’t think there is any argument over a rematch clause in this deal because I believe both fighters are willing to let public reaction to the first bout lead them into or away from a second bout.
5. The Mayweather Team’s continuing clam up means the deal will be rejected? No because the Mayweather side’s adherence to the no talking agreement should be applauded, not mocked. Arum just spits out brief details, some of which are illusory and imaginary as is his lifelong wont, and all of his remarks are designed to put he and Pacquiao in the most positive light. Arum wants us to believe that if Mayweather demurs, it will be 100 percent Mayweather’s fault, that he ?chickened out? after Manny gave him everything or almost everything he asked for. Continuing silence from Team Mayweather is, to the contrary, a sign that, with some minor alterations, they will come back to the table and without much stress or strain, the Nov. 13 Super Bout will push through.
