Ana Julaton W SD10 Maria Elena Villalobos
Ana Julaton captured the world female super bantamweight title moments ago in the co-main event at ?Rumble at the Rama XII? in Ontario, Canada with a hard fought split decision victory over Maria Elena Villalobos. Julaton started out well working behind an authoritative jab. In Round 3 Villalobos picked up the pace and landed some flush shots on Ana, causing some swelling below her eye. In the fifth Julaton reasserted herself again behind a very good jab and started to use some good movement to control the geography of the fight. Things tightened up late in the fight as Villalobos fired back with ferocity in Round 8, but Julaton fell back on her best weapon as her jab was the most eye catching punch in the final rounds. The fighters both went toe-to-toe in Round 10 and fought hard to the bell. After ten exciting rounds were complete two judges had the bout in Julaton?s favor 96-94 (x2) while the third judge had Villalobos ahead 97-94. Both fighters showed a lot of heart in the bout. With the win Julaton captured the WBO female super bantamweight world title.
?Thank you to everyone!? Julaton said post fight. ?This is a great boxing town for female fighting. I?ve got to give it up to Villalobos? she?s very tough!?
?Ana looked good but we?re about half way there,? legendary trainer Freddie Roach said of his rising female star pupil. ?We?ll keep at it and Ana will get even better.?
Orin Sports Management?s Allan Tremblay stated that a potential fight in the Philippines could be on deck for the Filipino-American Julaton.
