It seems so fitting that Floyd Mayweather has long since made Las Vegas his adopted home. The 33-year old?s brash style, penchant for flossing, charismatic personality, and love of the spotlight all go hand in hand with the city that never sleeps and in terms of boxing Floyd is without question the face of the city.
But what about outside of the sport? How much of an impact does Floyd have within the city? While it is true that the undefeated fighter?s every move is charted, Nevada is no stranger to playing host to the biggest celebrities and star athletes from the world over and sometimes Floyd doesn?t stand out nearly as much as simply fitting in.
In the most recent edition of Las Vegas Weekly, young Mayweather can be found on the cover with the publication announcing ?See where Floyd Mayweather Jr. ranks among our top 50 Las Vegas celebs?. With my curiosity slightly perked I couldn?t help but scan to page 18 to see where exactly ?Money? falls in Nevada?s world of entertainment.
Mayweather came in at a respectable #6, coming up short to only to television star Penn Jillette, reality show vixen Holly Madison, Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, The Killers? lead singer Brandon Flowers, and UFC president Dana White. Perhaps just like in real life, as Floyd is certainly great but perhaps not on as a prestigious level as he fully believes. Summing up Las Vegas Weekly?s criteria for their selection they put everything into perspective.
“Celebrity in Las Vegas is a funny animal. True, we?re a city of 2 million-plus, but at the same time we?re distinctly small-town in how everybody knows everybody. So there are plenty of local celebrities who are as important to our city?s character as the national ones, and they had to be accounted for.”
Other notables on the list include icon Wayne Newton coming in at number 7, tennis star Andre Agassi coming in at number 8, Mike Tyson snatching the 11th position, Criss Angel popping in at 13th place, pokey player Phil Ivey at number 17, and comedian Carrot Top at number 25, respectively.
While Las Vegas Weekly?s list makes for good banter it goes without saying that the more serious discussion concerning Mayweather is a potential fight with reigning WBO welterweight king Manny Pacquiao. The two sides are in discussion for a huge November 13th clash that would likely land in Las Vegas and if the contracts are signed then that would be the only countdown that truly mattered.
Floyd Mayweather can easily be forgiven for falling to the lovely Holly Madison, who snatched the number two position. Click on the collage below for a picture by picture look at the former Playboy playmate?
