Cebu City- Below is the transcription of the author?s latest conversation with WBO Minimumweight Champion Donnie ?Ahas? Nietes:
8CN: Hello Champ! How?s everything going?
NIETES: Hi Sir! It?s nice to hear from you. I?m back on training camp. I have an upcoming title defense in Tijuana, Mexico on August 14.. The fight will be promoted by Erik Morales under his promotions company Box Latino. My opponent is a rated Mexican named Mario ?Dragonito? Rodriguez.
8CN: In Mexico again? Aren?t your manager and promoter scared of having your title robbed in enemy territories just like what happened to our good friend Rodel Mayol who was another victim of a hometown decision?
NIETES: They assured me that Morales is a fair promoter and will choose fair and impartial judges. Besides you don?t have to worry Sir, there will be no such thing as a hometown decision. I am going to make the decision and that decision is to knock my opponent out so as not to give any room for cheating.
8CN: Strong words champ. LOL. I know you are capable of delivering your promises. When are you leaving for the U.S.? We were expecting you to attend the Double Philippine Championship Fights of Junjun Sabillo and Arthur Villanueva in Bacolod on August 7. Sad that you won?t be around.
NIETES: Be around next time sir. We are set to leave for Los Angeles on the third week of July. I will be training at the Wild Card Gym before flying to Mexico a week before the fight.
8CN:: Any inside news about your stablemate Mark Melligen? What?s your thought on the backing out of Rosales?
NIETES: I know Mexicans as true warriors but this Rosales is one hell of a chicken! Maybe he is a cousin of another chicken Fernando Montiel. LOL. Mark is ripped and ready for his fight. He wants bigger fights. He wants to make a statement that he is ready to face the top guys at welter. He will win in a sensational fashion.
8CN:: Any parting words champ?
NIETES: Thanks as always sir for being our voice to the world. Thanks to all boxing fans who always support us. Thank you 8countnews.com.
8CN:: Thank you as well champ. See you around!
