It’s on, it’s off, it’s on, it’s off, it’s on it’s off, blah, blah, blah. I don’t know about you folks, but I for one am getting really tired of the on again, off again headlines. If the Floyd Mayweather Vs. Manny Pacquiao fight does not happen, who does it impact the most? In this writers opinion, Floyd needs this fight more than Manny does.
Pacquiao has without a shadow of a doubt solidified his legacy and his spot in the Hall of Fame. Manny can hang up the gloves tomorrow, and other than making his fans sad, he loses nothing. The PR campaign has also been won by Pacquiao. The Mayweather’s have accused Manny of doing steroids, and they have a lawsuit to deal with for their troubles. Manny has never failed a drug test throughout his entire boxing career, so the accusations are baseless. Mayweather to most hardcore boxing fans is a brilliant fighter, but he has an image problem. Mayweather to the average boxing fan looks like he is running away from fighting Manny.
Stepping up and signing the contract is the best thing that Floyd can do oth financially, and for his image. Mayweather win, lose, or draw against Pacquiao will at least earn him some respect and it will shut a lot of those who believe that he’s cherry picking, up.

Recently I was in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and spent some time with Roy Jones Jr. The legendary Jones is a huge Pacquiao supporter, and is pulling for him to win the fight. Jones has nothing but admiration for Pacquiao, “Man I love that guy. I love what he stands for, and I love how hard he works in the ring.”
I also spoke with Stan Nichols, (Chief of Officials Mississippi) and got his thoughts on Pacquiao, ” Manny has nothing else to prove in boxing. He can wrap it up today and let the countdown to Canastota start.”
I spoke with Gilbert Kane of Gulfport, Mississippi about Manny and his career. Kane was at the fights in Hattiesburg, MS there to cheer on Deontay Wilder. Kane commented on Pacquiao’s career and legacy, ” Man, are you kidding me? Manny Pacquiao? His spot in the hall of fame is already carved out and waiting. He doesn’t have to fight Floyd Maweather if he doesn’t want to.”
Mayweather needs this fight in order to gain the respect of a lot of boxing fans. His PR image is not so good. A victory over Pacquiao on his resume would do wonders for his legacy, that’s for sure.
