CEBU?S top boxing patron Antonio Aldeguer is not yet ready to bind the youthful WBO Asia-Pacific Bantamweight champion and world title hopeful Rey ?Boom-Boom? Bautista to any legal commitment.
Aldeguer, who handles Bautista?s career, refused visiting American lawyer Michael Koncz?s offer to be Bautista?s US business manager, saying he is not ready to be tied to anybody at the moment.
?We?ve been discussing things regarding Bautista, but I don?t want to be tied or commit legally to anybody at the moment. For now, we are still in the getting-to-know-each-other stage, but I believe we?ll have a good relationship in boxing,? Aldeguer said during the Scoop-Cebu forum yesterday at Baseline Restaurant.
Koncz is in the Philippines scouting for boxers he can help get fights in the US as their business manager.
But Koncz hasn?t changed his heart on Bautista and even without a contract, he is still willing to help Bautista get a chance to fight in the US.
?Absolutely, many are interested to give Bautista good exposure in the United States. We believe he has this unrealized talent and we want to give him a chance to make a name in the US,? said Koncz.
After his brief stop in Cebu, Koncz will fly to Davao City to meet with current WBC international flyweight champion Diosdado Gabi, also considered one of the country?s potential world champions.
Koncz may be new to the boxing community, but he has good connections with respected boxing personalities in the US, including Manny Pacquiao?s American trainer, Freddie Roach.
He said the waves sent by Bautista?s power and talent led him to Cebu to meet Aldeguer and promoter Sammy Gello-ani.
He believes Bautista could be the next Manny Pacquiao.
